What happened, when
- Founding
Founded in Lalitpur by five
Five founding members — Er. Yujesh Maleku, Er. Subodh Rajbhandari, Naren Maharjan, Aswini Verma and Kshitiz Karmacharya — register Alpas Technology Pvt. Ltd. Maleku and Rajbhandari are King's College alumni. The stated purpose is narrow and specific: build civic technology for the municipalities around Kathmandu. The tagline is set early and never changes: "We help, you grow." Karmacharya leaves in the years that follow; the other four still lead the company.

The blog starts as a working notebook rather than a marketing channel — two long pieces on project-management and communication tools for IT teams, then, that October, essays on leadership and credibility. The habit of writing down what the team learns is set in year one.

- Hard stretch
Lockdown — the hard stretch
Nepal's first COVID-19 lockdown begins on 24 March 2020. A civic-tech studio less than two years old, whose clients are city offices, watches those offices close. The team's answer is to keep shipping in public: a COVID awareness post on 19 March, a piece on 1 April about how the pandemic changed the company, the "Lockdown Waste-Down" contest to keep neighbourhoods engaged, a Save-the-Environment event, and in May a smartphone COVID-risk screening built with Virufy. The Android team's build-up is written up the same month.

Rebuilding as a product studio
Through 2021 the writing shifts from tools to craft: what good UX actually is, how Nepali e-commerce businesses should think about their sites, what a mobile app can realistically earn. This is the studio's design-and-build era — commercial work in Nepal and abroad that funds the civic mission.

LMC Alert ships — commissioned by Lalitpur Metropolitan City
Version 1.0 of LMC Alert reaches the App Store. It is officially commissioned by Lalitpur Metropolitan City: residents report more than 20 kinds of incident — fire, accidents, road digging, blocked drains — straight to the city's Police Office, with live location. It is the product the studio was founded to build, five years and four months after founding.

NAS-IT Awards 2024 — Winner
At the NAS-IT Awards in Kathmandu, LMC Alert and the Ward App win the Government, Citizen Services & Digital Government category. The jury citation is for "reimagining emergency comms." NAS-IT winners go on to represent Nepal at APICTA.

ICT Awards 2024 — Social Innovation finalist
LMC Alert is a Top-13 semi-finalist in the Social Innovation category at the ICT Awards Startup & Idea Fest, where the team demos it to hundreds of visitors and to the Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithivi Subba Gurung. It goes on to the Top 5 finalists.

Alpas travels to Bandar Seri Begawan as one of the Nepali companies at the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards, showcasing its civic preparedness work. It returns as a regional nominee.

Lalitpur Metropolitan City asks whether AI can reduce misinformation during health scares. The answer is AI Sherpa, a conversational assistant co-built with the city, and the beginning of the AI classification work that later powers Nagarik Alert.

Nagarik Alert launches — as "CiviAlert"
Version 1.0 of the nationwide successor to LMC Alert reaches the App Store under its original name, CiviAlert, built with partner Innotrend Solutions. Citizens anywhere in Nepal can report incidents with photos and location, and an AI engine reads each report in Nepali or English, scores its urgency, and routes it to the right desk.

Version 1.0.6 renames the app to Nagarik Alert — "citizen alert" — and it keeps shipping: version 1.0.11 lands on 18 August 2026. The official site reports 9,000+ active users, 1,500+ alerts submitted, and 50+ new alerts a day.

Fifteen-plus municipal partners. Forty-seven citizen journeys shipped. Ten thousand-plus automated alerts delivered, seven hundred-plus requests automated every month through the Digital Citizen Charter, and more than a million people reached. Not a straight line — but the line kept going.

The Digital Citizen Charter and the ward apps
An interactive touch terminal for ward and municipal offices that publishes every service with its fees, documents and turnaround — and a family of per-ward mobile apps (LMC Ward 14, LMC Ward 28 and others) that put the charter in a citizen's pocket. Deployed with 15+ municipal partners including Lalitpur Metropolitan City and Kirtipur Municipality; 700+ requests automated every month.
e-Challan for Nepal Traffic Police
An Android application for on-street enforcement: an officer records a violation and prints the ticket from a Bluetooth printer on the spot, with a digital record behind it. Nepal Traffic Police's own notice on E-Challan (the "digital chit") describes the scheme to drivers.

MizeOS — a product business of its own
"Run your restaurant, not your software." MizeOS is a restaurant management system that pairs billing, kitchen tickets, inventory and staff roles with AI-driven intelligence — menu profitability by dish, revenue forecasting, peak-hour trends — and VAT/IRD-compliant reporting. Live in Nepal and early in its life — a free tier to start, Pro and Plus above it, and a Play Store app published by Alpas. Its launch date isn't published, so it sits here rather than on the timeline.
Work beyond the public sector — and beyond Nepal
The civic mission has always been funded by a design-and-build practice. Clients over the years include Nelson Airport, Uniquely Nelson and Morrisons Nelson in New Zealand; Refund My Super in Australia; and in Nepal Aware Nepal, Samjhana Laboratory, Upcycle Nepal, the Nepalgunj Marathon, Astra Digital, Identv, Vibravid, Rotaract 3292 and the bands Cobweb, Zenith and Monkey Temple.

Aligned with the Digital Nepal Framework
The work is rooted in the Government of Nepal's Digital Nepal Framework — automating public service delivery, strengthening transparency and good governance, and supporting the Digital Nepal movement through cooperation, collaboration and coordination.
